A Neuroplastic Approach to PT

Recovery after stroke is at least a 10 year process known as neuroplasticity. Our brains, even after stroke and aging, are plastic and can change. Research studies show the brain is able to make these changes assuming the physical therapy offered is challenging, function-specific, purposeful, and meaningful.

Dr. Wells lead a pilot study examining improvements in walking speed and quality in people with stroke. Those in the study had their strokes 2-5 years before enrolling in the study, and the main findings showed that people can significantly improved the walking, balance, and function when pushed hard enough. The study was done in 2013 with subsequent trials and practice guidelines now showing that much of what Dr. Wells and his team were doing was already ahead of the curve.

Our approach is holistic and focuses on you as a person, not merely a diagnosis. Our team can isolate and diagnosis the specific movement issues that are involved. Our treatments will focus on walking, transferring, balancing, resistance training, and functional tasks to push neuroplasticity. We also emphasize recovery from CVAs using manual therapy, pain and neuroscience, nutrition, and continued life-long exercise and physical activity.

We specialize in treating neurologic conditions like strokes so that you can move better and do the things you love. After our initial exam we will create a customized rehabilitation program with a focus on your goals. Ongoing maintenance PT is recommended. Our PT solutions are unique to you!
